The Halloween Tree Original Painting

"The Halloween Tree"
An original gouache watercolor
Price: $150 • free shipping

It's the last night of October when mischief abounds! Two trick or treaters happen upon the Halloween tree. Is it alive? Who put the jack-o-lanterns out? And why is the scarecrow smiling so? Something spooky is in store for it's Halloween!!

Using high quality watercolors and gouache, I've painted the scene on 140lb watercolor paper. It measures 7"x7", and comes unframed and unmatted. It is sealed for protection and comes in an acid free sleeve.

It is listed also on the EHAG Emporium, where you'll find other wonderfully creative Halloween art from my fellow artisans in the Electic Halloween Artist Guild. Thanks for taking a peek!

A Halloween Watercolor Reminiscent of Days Gone By

It's eBay Sunday, when I list an original small size Halloween watercolor painting. My latest piece is reminiscent of those vintage Halloween postcards I love so much, with curly vines bordering a Halloween scarecrow and bats fluttering above. It is the standard 2-1/2"x3-1/2" size for an art card editions and originals (ACEO), and as always, I am offering it at the starting price of $9.99. Check my eBay listings every Sunday evening for these tiny originals. You'll also find several prints of my original watercolors available too. See you next week!

Mark Your Calendars This Fall For Halloween Art Shows

I am once again proud to be a part of two Halloween art shows this fall!

Saturday • Sept. 27, 2014

Halloween and Vine is always a treat in northern California's wine country. Nestled in the quaint town of Petaluma, a talented array of Halloween artisans gather to share their love of all things October 31 and sell their hand made creations! I love seeing old friends and meeting new ones! It is sure to be a grande celebration once again!!

Spirits in Sanford
Friday • Oct. 3, 2014 • Evening Costume & Preview Party
Saturday • Oct. 4, 2014 • Art Show

Spirits in Sanford will be located once again inside the Jeanine Taylor Folk Art Gallery, which makes for a truly festive Halloween art buying experience. The evening costume party makes the magic of October 31 come alive, with artisans displaying their latest Halloween creations and party goers purchasing their favorite pieces. The magical spirit carries over the next day, when on Saturday, the show offers a delighted public more Halloween collectibles ready to be purchased and enjoyed.

I hope you have the chance to come to one of these shows. They are great preparation for that last day in October! See you then!

Getting Ready to Teach My Online Workshop

July 16 is just around the corner, and I'm getting ready to teach my Halloween Witch Lighted Theater class at ArtfulGathering.com

You will learn how to assemble low-watt light assembly to light up all the special details we put inside the theater. I made getting the light supplies easy, by offering the light kit in my Etsy shop.

We'll use recycled items to create the majority of our theater. And if you are a Halloween fan like I am, you probably have many of the supplies already in your art stash!

Plus, if you don't have a porcelain china doll head,  I will show you how to substitute the witch's head with one made of paper! We will have fun and you will learn lots of new techniques!

Hope you join me! Register at ArtfulGathering.com. Look forward to seeing you in class come this July!!

Let the Halloween Mischief Begin!

"Halloween Mischief"
Although it is still wintry and cold outside, I have planned a year of exciting events and art opportunities celebrating Halloween! Foremost is more painting!! This original mixed media linoleum block print is now available on eBay, and it involves quite a process.
If you are wondering how a "print" can also be an "original," I'll explain.
I draw the image and then transfer it to a piece of linoleum. Then, I hand cut the image using tools that scoop out the semi-rigid linoleum. I actually carve out the positive, or the white areas. Using a brayer, I spread ink all over the linoleum and then press it onto watercolor paper. It takes a few days for the ink to dry, and then I'm ready to paint and pencil.
Each print has to be inked, so no two are exactly alike. Most importantly, I hand paint and embellish each, so the originality of each is enhanced even more!

I love the glowing affects the linoleum block print process provides. Watch for more of these unique pieces as the days progress to Halloween and for exciting announcements of new art events!

More Halloween Art Ready to Find a New Home!

Click on images for larger view.

It is already mid October and the Halloween folk art shows around the country have come and gone. But there is still time to get a one-of-a-kind piece to add to your Halloween display if you didn't get an opportunity to go.

Vintage-Style Spun Cotton Cat & Jack Now Available
I have created Jack the pumpkin man who thought he would try his hand at one of the Book of Night Spells. He accidentally super-sized the cat, which not only startled him, but also surprised the cat!

Both have bodies of spun cotton. Jack's head is sculpted paper clay. His clothes are hand made and dyed for a vintage look. All have been handmade and hand painted by me, including the tiny book of spells and pumpkin treat bucket. Jack and his cat are firmly adhered to a paper mâché hand-painted candy box. All measures almost 15" tall and about 10" wide.

I am offering it on my blog for $150, plus $6.95 shipping.

I have another piece available on eBay, just click here.  If you know my art, then you know I can't resist adding recycled  and vintage elements to my pieces. This paper mâché moon and spun cotton witch with bats sit on a black candle stick. I had a lot of fun with this one!

I will leave you with a photo of me and two other artists from Spirits in Sanford Halloween Folk Art Show, in Sanford, Fl, where we met with collectors during a costume party. What fun we had! Halloween is really almost here! Email me if you have any questions. Happy fall!

Scaring the Boys and Girls on Halloween

Original ACEO watercolor, now available on eBay here.

"We're the farmer's scarecrows
We scare away the birds
We keep the farmer's corn safe
Without any words.
But when Halloween comes
We jump out of the ground
And we scare the boys and girls
When they come walking 'round."

Watch for Hooting Halloween Puffballs

Our new neighborhood has lots of tall oaks and is surrounded by a wooded preserve. So it's no surprise wild life is abundant here. Still, I was awe-struck to see not just one, but two, fluffly baby owls living in our trees.

I had heard the typical WHOO-WHOO, WHOO-WHOO while I was outside a few times, but I couldn't find them. Finally, some neighbors told me where to look and sure enough, two baby great-horned owls were just above in the trees! I was able to get a few pictures with my zoom lens. This is just what I need to get me in the Halloween spirit as the hot days of summer begin to descend upon our beachside town. Now I'm off to work on some Halloween watercolors and paper mache. Happy spring-time Halloween!
