Halloween's Happy Memories

Halloween Friends

SOLD

Although Halloween 2015 has come and gone, the happy memories remain! Spending time with family and friends enjoying the season is the best part of the holiday! The days leading up to it include seeing many of my Halloween art-loving collectors at shows. And I am able to see my dear friends and beloved family who live afar.

Closer to home, my husband and I had our annual Halloween party with many of our friends dressing up as all sorts of spooky and kooky characters! What fun we had celebrating with lots of yummy treats including caramel apples, witch's bones (an Emerill recipe) and witch's fingers (pretzels) made a la Martha Stewart. Not to mention all the other delectable treats party-goers brought for all to enjoy and tasty spirits.

And friendship is what inspired me to create my latest spun cotton piece pictured above. It is available and featured now on the EHAG Emporium, along with a slew of other wonderful Halloween pieces from my fellow Eclectic Halloween Artist Guild members.

Halloween Friends is made of spun cotton using techniques from Victorian times. Ms. Spider measures almost 6" across and the pair are about 3" tall. With a wire armature, her legs can be positioned how you like. She wears a vintage crepe paper collar and tiny witch hat. All were handmade by me, painted and aged to fit in with other vintage Halloween pieces.

I hope you enjoyed your Halloween surrounded by friends and all the sights, sounds and tastes of October 31!

Black Cat Halloween!

It's that time again when the Halloween artists of EHAG come together and display a selection of Halloween themed art for sale on the EHAG Emporium, Aug. 31, the last day of the month at 9 pm EST. My offering this month is a mixed media painting that combines printmaking, watercolors and colored pencils. (You can read about my process below.)

"Black Cat Halloween"
Mixed media painting just under 9"x12" and comes in an acid free protective sleeve. It is unframed and unmatted. And of course it is signed by me, the artist!

$125, plus $4.50 shipping

My Process
I start with a drawing that I hand carve into linoleum block. I add ink and make a black and white impression on Stonehenge cotton paper. Next comes the fun part! I paint with watercolors and embellish with colored pencils. These have such a glowing effect, I just love the lights and darks!

I hope you enjoy my view of Halloween!

Tuesday

New Halloween pieces for 2015 in the works!

With the Halloween season right around the corner, I am burning the midnight oil creating more spun cotton creations for my upcoming shows. This piece, however, is currently in my Etsy shop! I am planning on listing other pieces for those of you who can't come to Halloween and Vine, Sept. 26, in Petaluma, CA, or Spirits in Sanford, Oct. 9 & 10, in Sanford, FL. Watch for more fun spun cotton creations in the coming days.
Also, I have started listing my watercolor art cards and small originals in my eBay shop. They are listed on Sundays and/or Tuesdays for an end date of Sunday.
Hope you find something that tickles your Halloween fancy!

Meet Prunella the Pumpkin Witch

Prunella the Pumpkin Witch
$165, plus free shipping

It's the end of the month and another unveiling of Halloween goodies available for purchase from my fellow Eclectic Halloween Artist Guild members. This month, I have turned to my spun cotton again and created a pumpkin witch, complete with handmade stick-like arms and glass eyes. Be careful!

She will give you the evil eye if you stare too  long!

She is about 10 inches tall and is all handmade by me. Her arms bend, so you can pose her any way you'd like.

She stands near a small picket fence, and a tiny spun cotton jack o' lantern sits near the base of her tattered skirt. So many details you don't want to miss! Click the photos for a closer look. She is one of a kind, but she does have sisters!

Be sure to check out all the great items available on the EHAGEmporium blog! Happy haunting!

Light Up the Night with Your Own Halloween Witch Lighted Theater

"Witching Hour"
A halloween witch lighted theater!

SOLD - thank you Susan!

It's the end of the month and the EHAG Emporium's doors creak open with another slew of Halloween art up for grabs. My offering this cold month of January is a light-up theater that is perfect for getting you in the Halloween mood - all year long!

I have created a 16" tall theater featuring a squat witch made from a vintage German porcelain doll's head. Under a spooky tree, she holds a real twig broom and stands near an old fence. A large pumpkin sits nearby. In the foreground, a vintage-style cat hisses at passers-by. A smattering of fall leaves covers the top of the theater along with the image of a vintage clock face and a banner that reads, "Witching Hour."

The theater is covered in textured paper to give it that old, antique quality. All details inside are lit by a low watt light bulb, that is easily replaced when burnt out. Simply plug the lamp in, imagine that dark and stormy night and Halloween is right around the corner!
